The Christian Church - Synod of Saint Timothy

The Synod of Saint Timothy is a body of faithful Christians, seeking to minister to the world through the Sacramental life and fraternal love that was evident in the ancient Church, while always putting the saving grace of Christ's atoning sacrifice first in our minds. Propers for the Epiphany Season

While Epiphanytide continues the celebration of the incarnation of the Son/Word, this season following Christmastide distinctly includes reflection on the deep meaning of the healing miracles of Jesus during his early ministry among his people. These miracles, themselves epiphanies (manifestations) of the incarnation of God's only-begotten Son, are revelations of God's desire to heal/reconcile sinful humanity unto the throne of grace and salvation.

Please scroll down to the bottom of this post in order to obtain all of the propers for Epiphanytide!

May the Lord bless you and your loved ones through this holy season.

Blessings,
+Mar Martin

The Epiphany: Manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles
[7 January 2007]

Prayer:
Almighty Father, by the light of a star, you manifested your only-begotten Son to the peoples of the earth. We are grateful for the gift of your Spirit, through whom we have the eyes of faith to behold your Son as the Lord of heaven and earth. Help us to follow him unto the light of your everlasting glory. We ask this through your incarnate Word, Christ Jesus our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Rubrical Principles for the Latter Sundays of Epiphany

(1) This portion of the Epiphanytide lectionary is comprised of readings that focus on the gospel miracles occurring after the wedding at Cana and prior to the transfiguration of Jesus. These miracles constitute various epiphanies of the incarnate Word of God and thus are appropriately included in the spiritual reflections of the incarnational cycle.

(2) As the number of available latter Epiphanytide propers exceeds the greatest possible number of Sundays that follow the 4th Sunday after Epiphany (Cana Sunday), the pastors of the local churches may select from the available optional propers of Epiphany 5-14 those propers needed to cover the Sundays between the 4th Sunday after Epiphany (Cana Sunday) and the Last Sunday after Epiphany (Transfiguration Sunday), in order to meet the perceived needs of their local churches.

(3) However, the latter Epiphanytide propers must be selected and utilized sequentially. For example, if in a given liturgical year there are only two Sundays between Cana Sunday and Transfiguration Sunday, and if the pastor should select the optional proper for Epiphany 8 for use on the 5th Sunday after Epiphany, then the propers for Epiphany 9-14 would be available for selection for the 6th Sunday after Epiphany.

Optional Epiphany 5: "The Cure of Peter's Mother-in-Law"

Prayer:
Almighty Father, your Spirit manifested your glory and led many to faith through the miracles of your Son. As we recall the cure of Peter's mother-in-law, transform us through your Son's compassion and love, so that our lives may become inseparable from his life and goodness. We ask this through your incarnate Word, Christ Jesus our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

Propers for Advent

The following propers are proposed for our Sunday worship through Advent of the new year of grace. Kindly be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this post in order to obtain all of the Advent propers.

As the weather in our hemisphere grows colder, may the Lord's Spirit bring light and warmth to our hearts during this holy season. As we bustle about, scrambling to parties and gatherings or to purchase our gifts for those whose names are on our Christmas lists, may we never forget the One who emptied himself in order to become the Father's gift for our salvation. Jesus alone is the reason for this time of celebration, in which these days so many seem to have lost sight of the miracle of Emmanuel, the One who is "God-with-us" (cf. Matthew 1:23). Also, may we be quick and sensitive to recall among us the growing numbers of people for whom economic hardship will require choices between luxuries and essentials, perhaps even between essentials themselves. May the Lord renew within us the power of his grace so that our hearts will become places of welcome rest for his mercy, compassion, and abiding presence.

May the Lord bless you and your loved ones through this holy season of joyful anticipation of the coming Messiah.

Blessings,
+Mar Martin

Kingdomtide Propers

The several Kingdomtide propers listed below are proposed for the end of liturgical year 2006. Scrolling down to the end of the post is necessary in order to obtain all of the propers for this liturgical season. I apologize for being tardy in posting these, as I was not only "under the weather" for a while but also allowed this stretch of time to sneak up on me. I was a little out of practice, especially since the posts for Gracetide were completed in September (seems like aeons ago). Presuming that these propers receive final approval from our Episcopal Council, you might wish to save these offerings in your local liturgical folders for ongoing use. Otherwise, later you might refer to the online version of the Sunday lectionary to be posted on our Synod's website at www.christiansynod.org.

Blessings,
+Mar Martin
